Styling Our Entryway

I think of styling a house like styling clothing. Yeah, you could “just” put on a tee and pair of jeans when you are getting dressed-or you could style/dress up a tee and a pair of jeans by adding a classic leather jacket, nice shoes and some cute jewelry. In the same way your living room could just have a couch- but adding an area rug and some accent pieces would bring coziness and a put-together look! To me, styling is taking your house from basic to vavoom!. And, of course you want style to have function. For example that leather jacket mentioned earlier- yeah you are wearing it because its cute but its also keeping your warm. In the same way, not only does a leather couch look great, but it’s also providing needed seating.See?! aesthetic and function in one!

Now that we have finished the major renovation of our home…its time to really pretty this baby up! First up is our entry way. Why not start there? Its the first “room” people see when they enter our home. The current entry way is boring. It has grey walls and hardwood floors and thats about all it has going for it. The door is out-dated and gapping ( Harlley finally agreed to changing it!). There is no where to put our keys, mail or other knick knacks. So, this is what I came up with ( don’t laugh at my drawing)

Something I have learned is that you want your personal style to reflect the personality of the family who lives in the home. It took some time but I think I can file my family style as modern traditional. Now, I could have totally just made up that classification but I think it fits me perfectly because I love traditional elements such as built in cabinets, marble with intricate veining, and furniture pieces that tell a story. However, I love the traditional with a modern twists because I love clean lines and color contrasts, not to mention I love indulging a bit in trends.

I took to creating a mood board using stylesourcebook.com.au

soon to be entryway.

This helps me get an idea of what I want things to look like. The actual pieces won’t exactly be these but its a great place to start!

I am torn between these two rug choices. Which rug do you like best, the blue or “tribal one”? Please comment below!
