Toddler Room Series: Cleaning An Indoor/Outdoor Rug

When I was designing my son’s room, I knew it was very important for the materials I chose to be durable. He is two years old for goodness sake and can be quite rambunctious. I decided to go with an indoor/ outdoor rug from Rugsusa.com (I will make a post giving more detail on the rug/ his entire room.) It’s a great resource because they frequently have HUGE sales and has such a large selection of all types of rugs. Its like rug city…like seriously. I think I got this rug for somewhere around 75% off!

Indoor/outdoor rugs are the best for kids rooms because they are durable and pretty easy to clean. They are not the softest rugs but I would gladly give that luxury in exchange for my sanity, okayy??!

That leads me to the purpose of this post. While I was away in Baltimore for my beautiful friends wedding, Dallas the dog became sick and lets just say we aren’t exactly sure which end these stains came from cause he ate whatever it was ( yeah, disgusting). This is the life of a wife/mom/dog owner.

I used these simple tools to clean the stains: Palmolive dish soap, a hand brush I found at Home Depot, our trusty, all-purpose bucket, and some good-ole elbow grease.

Made great progress after a just a few minutes. Technique, you ask? There was none…I just scrubbed

I took a picture when I thought the stain had been cleared, but discovered through the camera that one of the stains was still putting up a fight. Do you see it? Or was I just being paranoid? Anyway I continued to scrub away. After a few more minutes…success! I also took the time to clean some other smaller stains. After cleaning, I let the rug dry overnight outside ( mostly because we were being to lazy to put it back in the room) and, wouldn’t you know it, it rained…on the rug. Good thing it was built for days like this!

Well, there it is kiddie bobs! What do you think of indoor/outdoor rugs? Drop me a line below and be sure to check back in later next week as I begin our kitchen reno series!

Sounds like something I want for the living room. Last rug I put there was just about torn apart by the dogs! As a fellow dog owner I’m sure you understand. I’ll have to check this USArugs.com out. Thanks for sharing!
